Involvement with Environmental Causes

In the 1960’s, I was a student studying psychology at the University of Edinburgh. There I encountered Richard Demarco, who was instrumental in bringing contemporary art and artists to the City of Edinburgh, and learnt of his interest in using art, theatre and stories to engage the attention of a wide variety of audiences to important environmental issues. Imagination is the key!

During last year’s Show the Love/The Time is Now Campaigns – the series of events I had organised for Wiltshire Federation of WIs had to be cancelled.  The first event was to have included a performance by an amateur drama group of ‘Mrs Noah fights Back!’, and a presentation by Nikki Jones of Avon Needs Trees.  An ancient myth about floods and extinction followed by examples of present day solutions!

For this year’s Show the Love, live performances are still not possible, so I was delighted when Karen Lockyer and her daughter Poppy Abbott took up the challenge to create a ‘Zoom’ production.

Doing all I can to leave our planet greener, cleaner and cooler for my children and grandchildren is of utmost importance to me.  I am excited to sponsor a production that will spread a vital message, provide work for young actors and bring delight to many – including me!
